June in Santorini usually brings us truly hot summer weather. Even though this is the first calendar month of summer, we know that a real dry and hot summer has long come to our island, and now the chance of precipitation is minimal, there are no strong winds already (and still!), and the sky is more and more often absolutely cloudless.
June is just the beginning of the high season on island-already officially. Volcanic beaches are becoming more and more popular, and since the heat is not yet at its peak, sightseeing tours of the island are comfortable.

In the first half of the month, the island experiences warm temperatures with the sun reaching up to +30 degrees Celsius during the day. Night temperatures typically remain above +22 degrees.

In the latter half of June, the weather in Santorini is consistently hot with daytime temperatures often exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. Nighttime temperatures remain warm, only dropping to around 25 degrees Celsius.

June on our island is almost always characterized by a rapid rise in temperature: the heat comes quickly and surely. The average daytime temperature is around +25 degrees, but these temperatures are most common in the first half of June.
As we reach the middle of the month, the temperature rises noticeably, and, most importantly, the sun becomes more intense, which can be dangerous. Although a light sea breeze may provide a sense of coolness, it can also mask the effects of the sun’s rays. Stay vigilant and protect yourself from the sun!
The temperature also rises at night – it becomes very comfortable to walk in the evenings! On average, you can count on +22 degrees, even late in the evening:

If we talk about temperature records, on the hottest June day ever recorded on the island, the air temperature reached +40 degrees in the shade. The coldest day in June was only +14 degrees, which, generally speaking, is more typical for winter months.
By the way, another nice thing about June in Santorini is the almost complete absence of strong winds! After winter hurricanes at the beginning of summer we have practically no wind.

The beach season in Santorini has been open since last month (sometimes the month before!) and the weather in June is perfect for a beach vacation and swimming, especially in the second half of the month.
In June, the sea in Santorini reaches a comfortable temperature for swimming, ranging from +22 to +24 degrees. This is especially enjoyable when the sea is calm and the waters on the coasts do not mix.
Yes, the sea around Santorini in June may not be very warm as it is still early in the summer season. However,we have many volcanic beaches on the island with black sand, which under the sun is heated to some impossibly high temperatures! As a result, the water near the shore may be slightly warmer, and it can be pleasant to go into it after walking on the black sand.

Sunny days and precipitation in Santorini in June
The majority of days in June on the island are sunny. Although there are still some cloudy days, completely overcast days are extremely rare!
June is the brightest month of the year in Santorini. On average, there are 15 hours of sunshine per day. Trust me, this is more than enough!
On our island there is almost no natural shade: no high mountains, no dense vegetation – no chance to hide from the sun. Which, by the way, is already quite active. Therefore, it is essential to protect yourself from the sun, especially during the period from 11:00 to 15:00 or even 16:00. We recommend wearing appropriate clothing and headgear and using a good sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30, preferably SPF 50.
At the beginning of the month, sunrise on the island occurs at approximately 6:00 and sunset in Santorini in June can be viewed at 20:30. Towards the end of the month, the time changes: sunrise is around 6:10, while sunset is a little later, at about 8:40 p.m.

In a word – a rarity. But it happens 🙂 Usually if some clouds suddenly gather (at the beginning of the month), it is limited to a variety of scenery in the sky: it usually does not rain. Rainfall is infrequent and short.
In the first half of June, if you visit us for a week or two, you are more likely to see clouds. However, towards the end of the month, as temperatures rise, cloudiness almost disappears.
In the previous month, the amount of precipitation was measured in double digits. However, in June, there is little to measure. If anything falls, it will be a couple of millimeters at most. June is already quite dry!

What can be useful for holidays in Santorini in June
June is probably the best month to travel to the island: the sea is sure to be warm enough for all beach lovers, and the weather will enjoy clear and sunny days, but there is no really debilitating heat yet. However, towards the end of the month you should be more careful: we have a lot of sun, and the temperatures start to break records even in the shade.
