Another summer month! July in Santorini is usually the hottest month of the entire summer season on our island. And this is especially true for the weather in the second half of July, when the thermometers start to show especially high temperatures even in the shade 🙂
In July, the classic hot Mediterranean summer is in full swing, and the sun dries out absolutely everything.
What is the weather like in Santorini in July
At this time on our island it is impossible to imagine not only rains, but even just cloudy weather! However, the lack of shade in Santorini can be problematic: we have a minimum of it here, so be careful, and do not forget the sunscreen.
In early July, the daytime temperature can reach up to +33 degrees Celsius in the shade. It is advisable to alternate sunbathing with breaks in cafes or walks through shaded streets. It is important to remember to bring umbrellas to the beach to protect against the maximum UV index. Without protection, it is possible to get sunburned in as little as half an hour.

The temperature drops slightly at night, with the usual range being between +24 and +26 degrees Celsius, which is generally quite hot, too.
In the second half of July, the weather in Santorini remains clear and sunny, with a slight increase in temperature during the day. The sea is also warming up, but it has not yet reached its peak for the month.
Now for the details.
Air temperature in Santorini in July
Santorini in July can be very hot: it’s not bad at all, but at noon you should be more careful, don’t forget to replenish your drinking water and use sunscreen (it’s better to use SPF 50). It’s important to live to see the sunset, which is especially beautiful in July! 🙂
Temperatures do not drop significantly at night, usually only by three to five degrees, so rest assured that July evenings are warm. Watching the sunset and walking along the promenade at the caldera is a pleasure!
Data for past years is presented in figures by day of the month. The figures are colour-coded, with blue representing night temperatures and orange representing daytime temperatures.
The relative humidity in Santorini during the month of July ranges from 45%, which is perfectly comfortable, to 75%, which may seem a bit humid. In general, the island is generally comfortable due to its small size and proximity to the sea.
What really distinguishes the weather in Santorini in July is the quite noticeable wind that starts this month. Most of the time during this month we have north winds blowing at about 6-7 meters per second. It’s not much, but still noticeable. And we’re glad they do, because they provide some releief and at least somehow help to cool down the narrow streets of the towns! But for the late afternoon, you might want to grab some warmer clothes, something from the “easy to throw on” category, especially if you plan to walk the promenade at night.
If we remember the record temperatures, the weather in July in Santorini is sometimes marked by air temperatures of +37 degrees Celsius in the shade! On the coldest day of the month, the air cooled to +15 degrees.
Water temperature in Santorini in July
In general, the weather in Santorini in July is really hot, and if you stay during the day in cities like Fira or Oia, even hot. Therefore, it is better to walk in the cities in the morning and evening, and spend the daytime on the volcanic beaches located in the east of the island.
In July, the sea in Santorini heats up to +24 degrees, and in some years it happened up to +27 degrees. One way or another, but the water on all beaches in this month is very warm, and on the black sand to walk barefoot is simply impossible – too hot!
If you opt for a smaller beach and the sea remains calm for a few consecutive days, you can swim in almost thirty-degree water in some areas. However, this is a rare occurrence, so expect a stable temperature of +24 degrees. The temperature will only rise further in 3-4 weeks.
