Excursion details

On this aerial sightseeing tour in Santorini, you can try two of the most powerful experiences at the same time.

First, you will see Santorini from a helicopter, you will see the vertical black rocks of the caldera from the once large volcano, on the steep edges of which are now the snow-white towns of Fira and Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia.

Secondly, it will all be happening as the scarlet sun is retreating over the endless sea horizon. Isn’t that beautiful? Absolutely beautiful! It’s just a completely different experience that can only be had while flying.

This is the basic route over the island and the volcano caldera, which lasts 20 minutes. During the helicopter flight you will see all the key sights of Santorini:

  • Vothonas village;
  • Pyrgos village;
  • Thira and Firostefani;
  • Imerovigli;
  • Oia;
  • The caldera of Santorini;
  • Akrotiri peninsula;
  • Red beach;
  • Old venetian lighthouse;
  • The islands of Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni;
  • Sunset in Santorini.

The schematic route of this evening aerial tour is shown on the map in the slideshow of photos above. Depending on the season, the sunset occurs at different times. For example, the approximate time of sunset in Santorini this week is 18:42.

The takeoff and landing takes place in the central part of the island, where the helipad is located, but the route will go not only over the island, but more along it – over the caldera of the volcano.

On this aerial tour we offer a small, bright and beautiful Robinson R44 helicopter to fly over the caldera of Santorini volcano in the evening. It is a compact helicopter, which, however, accommodates three passengers in addition to the pilot.

In this helicopter, the seats are arranged in pairs, with the pilot in the first row on the right and the first passenger on his left. Two more passenger seats are located in the second row.

There is a lot of noise in the helicopter cabin during the flight, so the cabin is equipped with special headsets (headphones + microphone) for all participants during the tour. You will be able to talk to each other and to the pilot.

The Robinson R44 is a very small helicopter and most of its cabin is glazed, with the largest windows at the front and smaller windows on the sides. With either seating arrangement in the cabin, all passengers will be at the windows. If you plan to take lots of photos during your Santorini helicopter tour, we suggest you take a seat next to the pilot – the view will be almost panoramic!

Please note that some companies calculate the flight time from the moment the helicopter engine starts until it is switched off. On average these processes take about 7-10 minutes, so the actual flight time may be less than stated. This is not our practice.

  • Passenger capacity: 3;
  • Length: 12 metres;
  • Height: 3 metres;
  • Diameter of main rotor: 10 metres;
  • Maximum speed: 240 km/h;

In good windless weather the Robinson R44 is stable and you are unlikely to experience any rocking. In windy conditions, the helicopter may shake or vibrate on take-off and landing, but in flight it behaves smoothly.

Sometimes there are noticeable winds on our island, so take o note of the larger six-seater helicopter. It is much more stable throughout the flight, even in strong winds, and is used for the exact same aerial tour too.

Our team keeps a very close eye on the weather conditions on the island. If the weather is unsuitable for your helicopter flight in Santorini, we will inform you, cancel your flight and reschedule your aerial excursion to a suitable date and time with better weather conditions. If, however, the weather does not improve, we will refund you fully.

Yes, of course. If your hotel has its own helipad, then (for a fee, usually due to hotel policy) our helicopters can land there. However, this is dependent on the hotel and in our experience it is not always available at all times: some hotels do not always maintain their helipads, some hotels do not allow helicopters to land or take off from their helipads at certain times, e.g. early in the morning or late in the evening, etc. You can contact our managers for such details and they will be happy to help arrange everything.
