Excursion details

Do you like archaeology and history? Then you’ll love this trip! The excursion to the ancient city of Akrotiri is a trip to one of the most important settlements of the Minoan period, surprisingly well preserved after the massive eruption of the Santorini volcano. The settlement of Akrotiri was buried under volcanic ash in the 17th century BC, but ironically it is the volcanic ash that has allowed the town to survive to the present day.

On this tour you will visit the ruins of the ancient city of Akrotiri and get to know the most important sights of the city:

  • Mylonos Square;
  • Telchinon street;
  • House of the Anchor;
  • Cenotaph square.

With a licensed guide, you will take a walk through a well preserved prehistoric city. Literally – you will walk through the streets of one of the oldest cities in Europe and see the multi-storey residential and craft buildings, get to know the organisation of the ancient city, streets, squares, the system of water pipes that ran under the pavements – all this is more than three and a half thousand years old!

The city, which existed during the heyday of the Minoan civilisation, was practically preserved under the ashes and as a result, in addition to the buildings within it, unique artefacts have survived – a variety of household items, tools and works of art.

It depends on the location of your hotel or villa. Some cities of Santorini are famous for their narrow streets, which are not so easy to walk even on foot. So in some cases you will need to walk to the main road, some nearest square or parking place, where a car or a tour bus can pick you up. If your hotel has good road access, then the transfer will be able to pick you up directly from the hotel.

After placing an order, you will receive detailed information about the place and time of the meeting, as well as all the necessary documents. Please read them carefully beforehand.

Santorini has a lot of sun and almost no shade during the spring and summer. You will definitely need some sun protection: sunscreen, glasses, hat and so on. If there is a possibility of nausea in transport, then we recommend taking the appropriate pills. You may want to buy something during your trip or to have lunch in one of the taverns, so consider taking some cash with you for these extra expenses.

Not at all, the walk through the ruins is calm and unhurried. The total length of the route is about one kilometre.

There are no limitations, but we do not recommend that you bring very young children as the tour material may be too complicated for them and they are likely to get bored.

The tour starts between 10:00 and 11:00. This will allow you to have breakfast at your hotel.

The tour ends around 13:30, so you can have lunch at the hotel or tavern after the tour.

Yes, you will be accompanied by a professional English-speaking guide.

The main language of the tour is English.
